Rehabilitating the Road Wall was the premier project of the Permaculture Program as tasked to us by the Providence Zen Center board of directors. It took us weeks to finish cutting, pulling, and clearing the overgrowth and refuse from the area in front of the stone wall and the wall itself. We received many donations of free mulch from local tree services, lots of help from the community, and many compliments from the our neighbors up and down Pound Road. We took what was a thicket of vines, bramble, and dead trees 20 feet thick and laid the groundwork for a beautiful polyculture of flowering and edible shrubs among an overstory of Korean Pine Nut trees.
